Questions people ask before they commit
How much does a kitchen renovation cost?
As a 2026 guide: $20,000–$35,000 for a replacement in the same layout, $35,000–$55,000 for mid-range custom, and $55,000–$90,000 or more for designer kitchens with islands and butler's pantries.
How long without a kitchen?
Usually two to four weeks on site.
Can I get engineered stone?
No — it was banned nationally from 1 July 2024. Alternatives include natural stone, porcelain, solid surface, laminate and timber.
Do I need approval?
Internal kitchen renovations in houses are generally exempt unless structure changes. Units generally need owners corporation approval.
What is a butler's pantry?
A second working pantry beside the main kitchen for appliances, storage and washing up, keeping the main kitchen clear.
What deposit is allowed?
The maximum deposit under NSW home building law is 10 percent.
