Questions people ask before they commit
Two-pack or laminate?
Two-pack polyurethane gives a seamless painted finish in almost any colour and can be repaired, but costs more and can chip on edges. Quality laminates are durable, easy to clean, cost less and come in convincing timber and matte finishes. Many kitchens mix both.
Are drawers better than cupboards?
For base cabinets, usually. Deep drawers let you see and reach everything without kneeling, and hold pots, plates and pantry items efficiently. Cupboards still suit tall items and corners with the right internal fittings.
What hardware matters?
Quality soft-close drawer runners and hinges rated for heavy loads, handle-less push or finger-pull options that suit how you use the kitchen, and internal organisers for cutlery, pots and pantry items.
How long does custom cabinetry take to make?
Commonly several weeks after final measure and sign-off, depending on finish and the manufacturer's schedule. It is made before demolition to minimise time without a kitchen.
